The Emperor’s New Clothes
La Ropa Nueva del Emperador

There once was an emperor who loved clothes more than anything.

He spent all his money on new outfits.
Gastaba todo su dinero en trajes nuevos.

He cared more about fashion than ruling his kingdom.

One day, two clever strangers arrived at the palace.

They claimed to be master weavers.
Afirmaban ser maestros tejedores.

“We can make the most magical clothes in the world,” they said.
“Podemos hacer la ropa más mágica del mundo,” dijeron.

“These clothes are invisible to fools and unworthy people.”
“Esta ropa es invisible para los tontos y los indignos.”

The emperor’s eyes lit up.
Los ojos del emperador brillaron.

He loved the idea of clothes that only the wise could see.

So he hired them immediately.
Así que los contrató de inmediato.

The weavers asked for gold, silk, and the finest thread.

They took everything…
Tomaron todo…

but used none of it.
pero no usaron nada.

Instead, they worked at empty looms, pretending to weave.
En cambio, trabajaban en telares vacíos, fingiendo tejer.

The emperor sent his minister to check their progress.

The minister entered the room and froze.

He saw nothing, but he didn’t dare admit it.

“If I see nothing, I must be foolish,” he thought.
“Si no veo nada, debo ser un tonto,” pensó.

So he said, “Magnificent! Truly magnificent!”
Así que dijo, “¡Magnífico! ¡Realmente magnífico!”

The weavers smiled.
Los tejedores sonrieron.

Soon the emperor himself visited the workshop.
Pronto el emperador mismo visitó el taller.

He stared at the empty looms.
Miró los telares vacíos.

He saw nothing at all.
No vio nada en absoluto.

But he didn’t want anyone to think he was foolish.

“So beautiful!” he cried.
“¡Qué hermoso!” exclamó.

“Such fine colors! Such delicate patterns!”
“¡Qué colores tan finos! ¡Qué patrones tan delicados!”

Everyone around him agreed, even though they saw nothing.

Finally, the weavers announced, “Your clothes are ready!”

They lifted empty air and pretended to hold a suit.
Levantaron aire vacío y fingieron sostener un traje.

They “helped” the emperor put it on.
“Ayudaron” al emperador a ponérselo.

The emperor stood proudly in nothing at all.

His servants pretended to admire the outfit.
Sus sirvientes fingieron admirar el traje.

“Perfect fit!”
“¡Queda perfecto!”

“Such elegance!”
“¡Qué elegancia!”

“Such grace!”
“¡Qué gracia!”

The emperor decided to parade through the streets in his new clothes.

The entire town gathered to see him.
Todo el pueblo se reunió para verlo.

People whispered nervously.
La gente susurraba nerviosa.

They didn’t see any clothes, but no one wanted to look foolish.
No veían ninguna ropa, pero nadie quería parecer tonto.

So they shouted, “Beautiful! Wonderful! Amazing!”
Así que gritaron, “¡Hermoso! ¡Maravilloso! ¡Asombroso!”

The emperor smiled proudly and walked taller.

Then a small child stepped forward.
Entonces un niño pequeño dio un paso adelante.

With a loud, innocent voice he said,
Con una voz fuerte e inocente dijo,

“But he isn’t wearing anything!”
“¡Pero no lleva nada puesto!”

The crowd gasped.
La multitud jadeó.

Then people began to laugh.
Luego la gente empezó a reír.

“He has no clothes!” they shouted.
“¡No tiene ropa!” gritaron.

The emperor blushed bright red.
El emperador se puso rojo de vergüenza.

But he lifted his chin and kept walking.
Pero levantó la barbilla y siguió caminando.

His servants hurried behind him, trying to cover him with a cloak.

The emperor realized he had been tricked.

And he finally understood that honesty is better than pride.

From that day on, he listened more carefully.
Desde ese día, escuchó con más atención.

And ruled his kingdom with wisdom, not vanity.
